We’ve all seen it on our dashboard—the button with the little car and a U-turn arrow inside. Most drivers leave it on or off by accident, but knowing when to press it can actually save you money, improve your health, and make your driving experience much more comfortable.
Here is the “insider” guide to mastering your car’s air recirculation button.
What Does the Button Actually Do?
Simply put, the Air Recirculation Button stops outside air from entering the cabin.
- When OFF: Your car pulls in fresh air from the outside, filters it, and blows it through the vents.
- When ON: The system pulls air from inside the cabin, recycles it through the cooling/heating system, and blows it back out.
🚗 When You SHOULD Use It
1. In Heavy Traffic or Tunnels
This is the “Police Officer” tip mentioned in many viral posts. When you are stuck behind a bus or in a tunnel, the air outside is thick with nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide from other exhausts. Turning on recirculation prevents those toxic fumes from entering your lungs.
