How to Save Your Future Towels
Unfortunately, once the color has been “bleached” out to orange, you cannot wash it out because the dye is physically gone. However, you can prevent it from happening again:
- Switch to White Towels: This is the most practical solution. White towels can be bleached and don’t have colored dyes to be stripped away.
- Use “Bleach-Friendly” Towels: Look for towels specifically labeled as “Benzoyl Peroxide Resistant” or “Bleach-Safe.” These are treated with special dyes that resist oxidation.
- The Hand-Wash Rule: Always wash your hands with a separate soap after applying skincare products before touching your colored towels.
- Designated Face Cloths: Use cheap, white washcloths specifically for drying your face, keeping your “good” decorative towels strictly for hands and body.
Pro Tip: If you think the stain is from sunscreen (Avobenzone), do not use bleach to try and fix it. Bleach will react with the sunscreen and turn the orange stain into a permanent, dark brown rust stain! Use an iron-out or rust-remover product instead.
