Why Earwigs Enter Homes
Earwigs aren’t trying to invade your home.
Like most insects, they’re simply looking for:
- Moisture
- Shelter
- Food
- Protection from extreme temperatures
When these conditions are available, earwigs may wander indoors and remain nearby.
This doesn’t mean your home is dirty.
In many cases, it simply means the environment is favorable for them.
Excess Moisture Is Often the Biggest Clue
One of the most common reasons earwigs appear indoors is excess moisture.
These insects thrive in damp, humid environments and are often found near:
- Bathrooms
- Laundry rooms
- Basements
- Under sinks
- Crawl spaces
- Areas with poor ventilation
If you’re seeing earwigs regularly, it may be worth checking for:
- Leaking pipes
- Condensation
- Roof leaks
- Water accumulation under appliances
- Damp foundations
Sometimes a small hidden leak is the real issue—not the insect itself.
