Max looked down at it. He looked at Claire. He laughed.

“What is it?”

“Open it and see.”

“Right here?”

“Right here,” said Edward.

Max smirked. He handed his drink to Derek. He bent down, tore the white ribbon off, and ripped the brown paper open with one big pull.

Max was smiling.

Until he opened it.

It was a mirror.

A full-length mirror. Almost five feet tall. Set in a frame made of dark, polished oak. The wood was beautiful. Smooth as glass. Every corner was joined with a dovetail joint, perfect and tight.

And carved into the top of the frame, in clean, deep letters that caught the light, were seven words:

WHEN DID YOU LAST LOOK AT YOURSELF?

Max stared at it.
